We stand with the trans community
Have no doubt that last weeks decision by the Supreme High Court will only lead to further discrimination for the trans community.
Women have always been defined by their biological sex and it has done little to provide us with protection throughout history. Yesterday’s decision will not suddenly provide us with protection from the trans community because we never needed protecting from them.
Safety will only come when violence against women and girls is truly tackled through legislation and education.
True feminism doesn’t demonise another group or community to further the interests of some women. Feminism is for all women, regardless of gender identity or biology, race, class or ethnicity.
Must we demonise a tiny proportion of the population in order to feel safer? Trans people also need safe spaces and to be heard and participate as valued members of society just like the rest of us.
As a community of birth workers we stand with the trans community in solidarity and will continue to provide safe, compassionate continuity of care to everyone who births and builds their families within our communities regardless of gender identity or sex.
